Here Hattie tells us about her time at the 2010 Big Bang Fair in Manchester:
I arrived at the Big Bang 2010 feeling apprehensive, however this quickly changed when I realised just how welcoming everyone was, from the participants through to the judges. Presenting my project to such a wide range of people including school children, tv personalities and professors was a rewarding experience and gave me confidence for university interviews.
This competition led onto the chance to attend an International Youth Science Forum and the European Youth Science Contest in Portugal along with people from all over the world. I also enjoyed a fabulous trip to the Scott Polar Institute and British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge to find out more about the research that they undertake in such hostile environments. The competitions were all unforgettable and I still speak to many of the people I met so would strongly recommend anyone to take part in the National Science & Engineering Competition. Whether you win a prize or not it’s a great experience.
